Passion at Porch Field parkrun

Introduction

Porch Field parkrun shares its home of Trim, County Meath with the passion provoking film Braveheart starring Mel Gibson. It may have been 30 years since the reknowned film was shot in Trim but the passion as seen in the Braveheart battle scenes has not left the area. We arrived to complete Porch Field parkrun just as the Boyne Adventure Race was coming to a close just outside Trim Castle. The passion on the participants faces as they dismounted from their bikes for one final 100 meter dash to the finish line was inspiring. Porch Field parkrun proved no different.

Journey around the parkrun World

Julie and I completed Porch Field parkrun and have now ran, jogged or walked in 47 different parkrun locations around the world.

Course

Stroller safe

I took the Uppababy Ridge out for a spin on the course. The surface was in great condition. The course itself bobs, weaves and goes uphill more than once but you have sure footing the whole way round and a powerful Porch Field sprint finish is there for you. Maybe pretend your William Wallace and charge at the finish line.

Live a Little

It won’t be every parkrun that has you run past a centuries old castle. Take it in even if you are struggling on the uphill.

Volunteers

The Run Director greeted us with thanks for squeezing this parkrun in between our choices of “another boring adventure race (Boyne Adventure Race) and Oasis”. I can’t get enough of the fun loving personalities that I have found at every parkrun over the years. I consider myself one of them. As RD at Bushy parkrun (Dublin) I reminded participants that they had done the hard work already this morning getting out of bed and then encouraged them that should they find it hard at any point this morning to look around admire the beautiful views take in that they were fully alive running, jogging or walking and use that positivity to keep going. The leader smashed the course record that morning and told me he found himself inspired by me. I was shocked but never the less a bit optimism goes along away at parkrun. I laughed at the Porch Field RD and enjoyed my day out at parkrun. If I thought that was the only bit of encouragement that was lying around Porch Field I was wrong the marshals at the corners, outdoor gym and back of the Castle were inspiring. The Marshall by the outdoor gym raised my spirits a lot on the final lap reminding me that I was flying it with the buggy. The Marshalls at what was my first, second and final turn never stopped clapping and yelling ‘keep going’ and ‘you’re great’ to everyone. The lady at the back of the castle seemed to running a busy airport runway as she kept an eye on park users and parkrunners guiding us all around each other and urging us to ‘keep moving well’.
